I’m concerned that a second great visitation of waves, issuing across the Pacific from the Cascadia Subduction Zone will wash all that pile of flimsy containers full of radioactive wastewater [at the Fukushima nuclear reactor plant] back into the Pacific and cause worse damage to the Fukushima nuclear plant, perhaps exposing rods to the air and causing them to catch fire. That would spew a real threat of fallout depopulating much of Honshu Island while sending fallout clouds across the Pacific to shower down on the US West Coast states. We’re talking about a potential, open-air nuclear fire like what happened in Chernobyl in the spring of 1986, the world’s worst nuclear disaster in history—so far.

I am cautiously hopeful at least that the Japanese have built new sea walls and turned the ocean face of Fukushima plant into a fortress against the sea. There was nothing wrong with the last seawalls protecting Fukushima and many a harbor along the northeastern Honshu coastline. The 9.0 magnitude Tohoku quake was so powerful that it dropped the coastline three to as much as seven feet, allowing the ocean to spill easily over what were once perfectly tsunami-proof defenses a moment before the quake shook.

When the waves come this time, Japan’s defenses will not be undermined. Other lands thousands of miles west of Honshu, will shift and sink along the Oregon, Washington and British Columbia Coasts. Virtually no tsunami-proof seawalls are there to undermine, but fortunately, no oceanside nuclear reactors exist to flood and lay bare their radioactive rods to the open air.
